The llanos Orientales are home to Colombian cowboys and some of the most diverse wildlife in the country. A wildlife safari across these vast tropical grasslands is an experience unlike any other in Colombia.
You’ll be collected from the airport in Yopal and take a relaxing journey of around 2-2.5 hours through some beautiful Orinoquia landscapes to your Hato (Typical farmhouse of the region).
Your Hato is located on a Natural Reserve which preserves the traditions of the region. In addition to its biodiversity and culture, it’s also part of the Natural Reserves of the Civil Society NRCS. Its extensive territory is home to a large number of species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, numerous herds of capybaras, and large flocks of colorful birds that can easily be found. Quite often the trails of Pumas (giant paw prints) can be found, and occasionally you can observe these elusive animals in person as well.
Here you will enjoy an amazing landscape, with sunrises and sunsets that are painted in many colors and the different expressions of the living Llanera culture.
On arrival to your Hato, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles and be shown to your room for the next 2 nights in the Casanare. Once you’ve freshened up it’ll be time for a wonderful typical lunch of the region.
After lunch, it’s climbing into an open-top 4x4 and off on your first 3-4 hour safari of this magnificent area in search of some of the many wild animals that thrive in this region.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Capybaras, deer, babillas (small alligators), wild horses, palm and honey bears, iguanas, ducks, howler monkeys, owls, armadillos, foxes, turtles, wild pigs, pumas, and hundreds of species of birds.
Getting back to your Hato as the sun is setting you’ll enjoy a wonderful Los llanos dinner before relaxing with the sounds of nature as you drift off to sleep.
